BLOURNAL
I know it can’t rain all the time, but this winter has been an absolute washout
Well, I was gonna write about the weather and how this year has been kind of a washout so far, but I don’t really know what else there is to add to that particular subject. Maybe I just have such a limited imagination but I don’t think there’s much else that needs to be said about the weather other than the fact that it’s been persistently miserable since we started singing “Auld Lang Syne”.
Marty Supreme
I finally got around to seeing Marty Supreme last night and… hoo boy, who would’ve thought a film about a guy with aspirations of playing table tennis would be so intense.
I made it through another Blue Monday
Hi, everyone.
Apologies for the lack of blournal updates. I don’t have any excuses for being so remiss over the past few days aside from the fact that I’ve been feeling a bit out-of-sorts.
Back to the Future
Well, Back to the Future is back in cinemas this week for its 40th anniversary. I saw it yesterday and… yeah, it’s still great, which is hardly surprising. Back to the Future is one of the most unanimously beloved films of all time and for good reason.
This Weekend
It’s been a pretty busy weekend for me, which I already alluded to in a previous blournal post.
Yesterday, I saw Conor McPherson’s The Weir at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin and it is a strange play… definitely a hard one to explain the appeal of…
Double Bill
I went and saw Together and Weapons at the local cinema yesterday.
The Princess Bride
Well, I finally got around to seeing The Princess Bride for the first time and I still feel like punching myself for not seeing it sooner.
One in the morning…
I should probably be winding down right about now. It’s late and I’m tired, but my mind doesn’t know how to switch off.
F1: The Movie
It’s been three weeks since I last saw Superman at the cinema, so I went out today with the intention of doing one of my signature double bill catch-ups. Alas, things didn’t quite work out that way and I wound up only getting the opportunity to see F1: The Movie.
Post-birthday
Once again, my birthday has come and gone.
I had a great time seeing on Superman on Friday. It’s every bit as goofy and ridiculous as you might expect for a James Gunn superhero film…
Impossible Missions and Killer Ballerinas
I went to the cinema for another double bill yesterday… Ballerina (also known as From the World of John Wick: Ballerina for some reason) and Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (which is supposedly the final film in the long-running Mission: Impossible franchise, but we live in a climate where franchises never end so… we’ll see).
Monday morning
So, that’s another weekend done and dusted.
Surfing and superheroes*
I saw both Thunderbolts* and The Surfer at the cinema yesterday.
Sinners
I finally got around to seeing Sinners yesterday, and sorry to disappoint anyone who expects me to be a contrarian but yeah, I thought it was bloody brilliant. Possibly my favourite film of the year so far.
Novocaine
I had a lot of fun watching this in the cinema.
I’ve always been a sucker for action-comedy and this one does delivers the goods. It’s unabashedly goofy and doesn’t take itself seriously unless it needs to…
April Fools' Day
Yep, it’s that time of year again and nope… I don’t have any jokes. Then again, it’s hard to top the current state of the world, which itself feels like an overly indulgent and drawn-out April Fools joke with no end in sight.
Mickey 17
I saw Mickey 17 last week. I would’ve written about it much sooner but I’ve been struggling to articulate my thoughts on it.
Oscars
So, I stayed up late last night to watch the 97th Academy Awards. I don’t know what the overall consensus for this year’s show is, but I greatly enjoyed it.
No more monkeying around
Lately, life’s been pretty quiet and uneventful, but I did see The Monkey last Friday, and I thought it was an absolute blast.
Nosferatu
Just got out of Nosferatu.
It's either my favourite movie of 2025 (so far) or my third favourite movie of 2024.
