An insomniac’s brief thoughts on the Insomniac Spider-Man games…
I’ve spent the last couple of nights finishing up the main story campaign and collecting all the trophies — aside from the New Game Plus trophy, which I’ll get somewhere down the line — in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, so it’s easy to why I haven’t been much sleep as of late. Sitting at a laptop typing up blournal entries at well after two in the morning certainly doesn’t help matters either, but I want to try and strike while the iron’s… relatively hot.
I don’t know if my opinion is going to be controversial, but I really enjoyed Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and I’m still not sure whether I prefer it to the first game because I love them both almost equally. I personally think both games have compelling and emotionally gripping stories, incredible set pieces and near-flawless gameplay that — at the risk of sounding clichéd — makes you feel like Spider-Man. Maybe I could do a comparison somewhere down the line, but now is not the time for that. I need to get some rest and I also feel the need to apologise for not mentioning Miles Morales in the conversation. I love that game too. Even with its shorter length, much of what I love about the mainline games is still present and the Christmas setting lends the spin-off a unique charm that separates it from the other games. Hell, I might just make it my game of choice every Christmas from here on out.
Truth be told, I’m not sure what game I’ll turn my attention to next. I suppose I could go back and revisit the Super Mario Galaxy games on my Switch, especially since the Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming out this week, but we’ll see. I’ll think more about that when the sun has risen. In the meantime, I’m gonna go catch some zzzzz’s.
