Gaming, quizzing, prepping for Manchester and a brief tangent on why I’m jumping ship from Adobe

Last night was fun. Didn’t win the quiz sadly but it was still good craic nevertheless. I look forward to doing it all over again next week.

Once I got home, I played through more Gladiator matches in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando. Not much else to say that I haven’t already said in previous blournal entries. These matches are still a fucking blast and the Challenge Mode does shake things up slightly because you’re not playing the exact same matches from your first playthrough. Truth be told, they’re not substantially harder, but they keep you on your toes and the payout for winning is so much better than before. Granted, one of these challenges is the “Wrench Expert Challenge” where you have to kill all your opponents with a wrench without getting hit and… maybe someday, I’ll beat it but today is not gonna be that day.

I also decided to do something that I probably should’ve done a long time ago… cancel my Adobe Creative Cloud subscription, which has been burning a hole in my pocket for years. Perhaps I’m being a bit hasty but right now, I think it’s one of the better choices I’ve made as of late. I haven’t been using Adobe anywhere near often enough to justify the cost, but even if my usage was more consistent, I’d still probably jump ship eventually because let’s face it, Adobe has been on a steady decline for some time. They’re pretty infamous for jacking up their prices, to say nothing of their shady-as-fuck subscription models which, no joke, charge you a penalty if you decide to cancel after the initial 14-day start-up. Granted, you can get around this by switching to another plan and cancelling as soon as possible, but it’s still bullshit no matter what way you look at it.

So yeah, between all that bullshit and their hopping on the generative slop bandwagon, I don’t think I’m gonna miss Adobe all that much. I recently downloaded DaVinci Resolve, which I’ve heard is a more-than-viable alternative and once I return home from Manchester, I intend to spend some time learning how to use it properly.

Anyway, I’d better doing some of that packing and prep work I said I needed to yesterday. Also, I have a beard trim scheduled for later this afternoon so I have plenty to do and I can’t really afford to sit around fixing on a blournal all day so… I’ll see you when I see you.
