My first concert of the year (and hopefully not the last)

Hiya… meant to write something on Saturday but I lost track of the time and I was having a hard time articulating myself, so here we are.

So, I saw Biffy Clyro at the SSE Arena on Friday and spoiler alert, they were fucking amazing. Granted, I’ll admit that I’m being a little biased when I’m saying that. Biffy’s been one of my favourite bands ever since I was a teenager and now that I’ve seen them for the third time, I still think they’re one of the best bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing live. Their shows are so consistently energetic, raw, emotional and passionate with hardly a dull moment, and Friday night was no exception — exhilarating, fiery, poignant and open-hearted in all the ways that make Biffy so fucking good. Just an incredible show all around — the stage setup was great, the lighting was great, the band sounded great and most importantly, the songs sounded great. Good setlist as well, although I would’ve liked to have heard a few songs from their first three albums before they got big, but that’s me being nitpicky.

Hell, I enjoyed myself so much that I only took this one photo during the entire concert.

As for the opening acts, I missed The Armed’s performance, but I did arrive just in time to see Soft Play’s set, which I thought was an absolute fucking blast… chaotic, raucous, cheeky and politically charged with tons of energy to boot. Definitely an interest choice of opener for Biffy, mostly because I don’t think there’d be much overlap between their respective sounds or fanbases, but I’m not complaining. Soft Play was a lot of fun and it seemed like they went down a treat with the audience.

So… yeah. That was my first concert of the year and hopefully, it won’t be my last.
