In case you forgot, today is also a Bank Holiday

Part of me wanted to call this post “The Star Wars Bank Holiday Monday Special” as May the Fourth happened to occur on a Bank Holiday Monday this year, but I decided against it.

Spent much of the afternoon listening to RTE Gold count down their list of the Top 100 Movie Songs, which had more than its fair share of solid, if predictable, picks, but there were also a couple of questionable inclusions, some glaring omissions — no “Kiss from a Rose”, no “Axel F”, no “Misirlou”, no “Jungle Boogie”, no “Lust for Life” — and a few dubious rankings, but it was a fun listen nevertheless.

So… yeah, aside from that and working out at the hub, that’s pretty much the height of what I got up on this Bank Holiday Monday. No road trips or anything particularly adventurous, but not every day has to be like that. It’s nice to have a day where you can just kick back, relax and watch some Star Wars, which I’m what I’m going to do now once I’m finished writing this.

So, one thing I acknowledge that I’m very guilty of doing is “tab hoarding”, which is where you might keep up to a hundred tabs open either on my phone or laptop for fear of missing out. It’s surprisingly common according to this article, so I thought I’d use the blournal as a way of doing some “digital decluttering” from time to time.

So, this game is called the 9th Dragon and it’s being sold as a cyberpunk beat-em-up with 80s and 90s influences. It doesn’t have a release date yet, but it looks promising. I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on any future developments.

I’ll also be keeping a close eye out for this game as well. It looks incredible and the idea of mixing Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot of potential so… fingers crossed. I hope it delivers the goods. At the moment, it’s only set to be released on Steam but there are supposedly for console versions.

Anime GTA where you’re Spider-Man? Sign me up for this as well because holy shit, I’m sold.

Speaking of Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s a pretty huge game and I love the explorative aspect of it, so it shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that I’m intrigued by the fact that there are open-world games out there that are much bigger than it.

Well, I fucking love Nine Inch Nails so I might have to give these acts a listen at some point.

Here’s an article from the Guardian about the blossoming Irish alternative music scene.

Another article from the Guardian about Gaelic noir. I feel like “Gaelic noir” is something that should’ve existed long before now but I’m glad it’s becoming a thing.

Here’s a pretty wholesome story about childhood friends making a movie. You love to see it.

A bit of preaching to the choir here, but yeah… I really can’t stand AI, especially generative AI. Maybe someday, I’ll be able to articulate why but this will suffice for now.

I meant to come back to this because I really want to make short films and I was hoping to create a playlist of films that I could watch for aspiration.

OK so there’s a lot more I want to talk about but that’ll have to wait for another time. The day’s almost over so I’m gonna wind down and watch some Star Wars before I head to bed.

May the fourth be with you.
