On today’s installment of “I’m not American, but…”

Election Day is almost over and although I’m not American, I’m still pretty anxious about how the rest of the week is gonna pan out. I'm hoping that there’s not just a blue wave, but a fucking tsunami. It’d be so fucking satisfying if that happened — especially considering the current regime’s unpopularity and the President’s dwindling approval ratings — but nothing's guaranteed. I still remember being, at the very least, cautiously optimistic this time two years ago when a certain someone was on the ballot and… well, we all know how well that turned out.

But even if this blue wave materialises, I’m also concerned about how this certain someone might react (or more specifically, retaliate). We all know he's a sore and ungracious loser who still insists that he won the election in 2020 despite plenty of evidence to the contrary and… oh, boy, god only knows what he’ll say if the end results aren’t to his liking. Regardless of the outcome, I have a bad feeling that the political climate is still gonna be extremely ugly and toxic. Quite frankly, that toxicity isn't gonna be dying down anytime soon.

For the next few days, I’m gonna try and limit my social media usage as much as I can, partially because I’m a little exhausted reading story after story after story on Instagram about how important it is to vote — believe me, if I was American, I would — but also because doomscrolling is literally THE last thing I should be doing right now. I’m not doing myself or anybody else any favours by going down that fucking rabbit hole so… yeah, a social media break would be helpful. Oh, and the news. Gotta avoid the news as much as humanly possible.

I guess all I can really do at the moment is look for ways keep my mind occupied… whether it be  watching silly YouTube videos, reading comic books, reading actual books, playing video games, catching up on what I’ve missed on the Celebrity Traitors, watching movies, etc. Yes, I know this sounds extremely privileged and yes, I’m also not very good at following my own advice but I strongly suggest you do the same if you aren’t already doing it. Speaking from experience, obsessing over what might happen in the foreseeable future, is NOT going to help… at all. I’ve been there before and it’s not fun. So allow yourself a little bit of relaxation and comfort if you can. Whatever tomorrow’s outcome is, please keep fighting the good fight and keep being you.

Sadly there was no good sunsets today, so here’s a recycled photo from yesterday. Who knows? It might make for a good thumbnail. Wink wink.
