Post-birthday
Once again, my birthday has come and gone.
I had a great time seeing on Superman on Friday. It’s every bit as goofy and ridiculous as you might expect for a James Gunn superhero film… which I mean in the best possible way. I love Gunn’s distinct brand of silly earnestness and I’d say it fits the vibe of Superman a lot better than you might expect. David Corenswet is great in the lead role. He’s effortlessly charming as the Man of Steel, although I do wish he had a bit more screen time as Clark Kent. He pulls off the duality of the character well, channeling his inner Christopher Reeve but not copying him wholesale. I loved Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult makes for a great Lex Luthor, and while there’s probably a few too many supporting characters… I’m also happy to see Jimmy Olsen actually get something to do and there is a few cameo appearances that I actually kind of liked. I’m actually excited to see what the rest of this new DC universe will look like, especially with the second season of Peacemaker coming soon.
The barbecue was a blast. No surprises there. It was great craic and I even got up to sing Eminem’s Stan which, oddly enough, has become my party piece. I have no idea why, but people seemed to enjoy it, so I must be doing something right. I got a lot of lovely birthday wishes both online and in-person, to which I’m sincerely thankful for. It’s been an incredibly fun couple of days, but now, it’s time for me to get back to… some semblance of normality.
Take care.
