Monday morning
So, that’s another weekend done and dusted.
Not much to report, although I did see 28 Years Later with a few of my friends last Friday. For the most part, I really enjoyed it although that final scene, without spoiling anything, is a pure WTF moment. Felt like it came out of an entirely different movie, but at the same time, I am a little intrigued to see how they follow up on that. Aside from that, it’s a surprisingly poignant and moving sequel and I love how director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland expand the scope of the franchise while also telling an intimate and (mostly) grounded story that respects the lo-fi roots of the original film. It’s also a visual delight too… the desolate landscapes are both beautiful and haunting in equal measures, and I’m still blown away by the fact that most of the movie was shot using iPhones. I really hope the home video release has some good behind-the-scenes material because I’d really love to see how this movie was made.
I’m trying to steer clear of social media in light of Trump’s latest act of lethal stupidity. The algorithms of misery are in full effect, which is hardly ideal when you’re trying to keep your shit together. I do think there’s some (but not much) method to the madness as he’s blatantly trying to deflect from the bruises his ego received last week when nobody came to his wannabe authoritarian birthday march… not even the “No Kings” protestors could be bothered to gatecrash it, and I have no doubt that he was eagerly anticipating that possibility. It’s almost like actively ignoring or refusing to even acknowledging the existence of an attention-seeking narcissist hurts him more than any insult or criticism ever could. It’s a double-edged sword because said narcissist is one of the most powerful people in the world and he’s using that power to hurt people, and so, he needs to be called out for his callousness and cruelty, but doing so gives him the attention that he so desperately craves. There really is no winning with people like Trump, but it would be nice if the whole world just decided to do what the boys did in that one episode of South Park where they stonewall Cartman and he somehow comes to the conclusion that he’s dead.
On an unrelated note, I’ll be heading to the hub shortly after I post this. I have a plan laid out that’s not too dissimilar to when I was doing circuits, so that should help to structure my workouts a bit better.
Until next time, take care.
